Day 7: Saqqara and Giza

Our last day began with a visit to the temple complex of Saqqara, the oldest surviving Egyptian monument yet uncovered. How old is it? It's so old that Egyptians from the New Kingdom period (ca. 1500 BC) left graffiti from their tourist visits to this monument from the Old Kingdom period (ca. 3000 BC). Rather like us leaving our names on a church built in in the 5th century. Unbelievable.

The Pyramids at Giza. The last remaining Wonder of the World, the largest funeral chamber in human history and, until the construction of the Eiffel Tour, the tallest structure ever built.

On our final night we took a dinner cruise on the Nile. We were treated to performances by a Whirling Dervish and an Arabian Dancer named Layla, and a peaceful glimpse of Cario by night.
